Brief
The T-90 is a Russian battle tank combining the structure of the T-72 and the electronics of the T-80 . It should have been called T-72BU but a political decision renamed it T-90 following the mass destruction of T-72 during the Gulf War 1 . The T-90 was declared fit for service in 1992 and mass production for the Russian military began in 1994.

Chechnya : T-90 tanks were deployed in Chechnya [ archive ] , as was the BMR-3M mine-clearing armored personnel carrier tasked with clearing roads.
Bosnia : Russian engineer IMR-2MAs were deployed under SFOR colours .
Algerian T-90s are deployed during the In Amenas hostage-taking inJanuary 20136 .
Syrian Civil War : T-90 tanks are being deployed in Syria from the fall of 2015 7 . Copies in the hands of the Syrian army were used in support of troops around Aleppo , one of them demonstrated during the battle of Khanasser a good resistance to a BGM-71 TOW 8 , 9 missile fired by armed opponents of the Syrian regime, the Islamic State or Jund al-Aqsa 10 . The survival of the tank seems linked to its shielding system, the missile having hit the vehicle but without causing an
internal explosion 11 .
Nagorno-Karabakh : In the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War , Azerbaijan employed T-90 tanks against
Armenian troops. At least 3 T-90s were destroyed by the Armenians 12 .
Ukraine : During the Russian invasion in Ukraine in 2022, the Russian Federation commits, in addition to its T-72 and T-80, T-90 during operations in the Donbass , at least one T90M is destroyed. Its abandoned carcass appears in photos of Ukrainian journalists 13
