The FIM-92 Stinger is an American short-range surface-to-air missile launcher used to hit helicopters or low-altitude combat aircraft . He is the “ shoot and forget ” type.

France : 15 firing positions and 30 missiles purchased in 1983/1983 for operations in Chad 4 , the first 12 firing positions acquired during the outbreak of Operation Manta 5 . On August 30, 1987, one was fired out of range by a unit of the 11th Marine Artillery Regiment against a Libyan Iliouchine Il-76 bombing Faya-Largeau . He carried out an unsuccessful shot during a Libyan bombardment on September 10, 1987 6 . The 35th Parachute Artillery Regiment shoots down a C-130 Hercules transport plane on July 7, 1988of unknown nationality by firing 3 missiles, one of which hit 7 .

AIM-92 variant
The AIM-92 Stinger is an air-to-air variant of the FIM-92. It notably equips the AH-64 Apache and Tiger helicopters as well as drones , such as the MQ-1 Predator and the MQ-9 Reaper .

One of the detection systems used for this missile since the 2000s is the PSTAR-ER radar .

The Stinger missile can be found in several video games: the Metal Gear Solid series , Call of Duty: Modern Warfare , Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and 3 , the mod for Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat , Battlefield 3 , Battlefield 4 and GTA V and also the strategy games Empire Earth , Wargame Red Dragon and Command and Conquer: Generals .
Hollywood cinema also makes reference to it in certain films, including Rambo 3 , Close Enemies and License to Kill , the sixteenth James Bond. In The Fall of London , a 2016 film, terrorists attempt to shoot down the US President's helicopter using Stingers.
